Recreating a Beloved Sunroom for a Lifetime of Memories
Recreating a Beloved Sunroom for a Lifetime of Memories
Completed on: August 12, 2024
Client Background
Our clients, a charming couple in their late 80s, have lived in their cherished home for over 60 years. Their deep connection to their home is evident in every corner of their property, reflecting decades of memories and life experiences. However, they had a particular fondness for their old beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where they spent countless summers. The sunroom in that beach house, filled with warmth and sunlight, held a special place in their hearts. Their dream was to recreate that beloved sunroom in their current home, making it a cozy, inviting space for relaxation and family gatherings.
Initial Condition
Before we embarked on this project, the existing space was an open screen room with weathered wooden deck boards. While functional, the screen room lacked the warmth and charm the couple remembered from their beach house. The wooden deck boards were old and worn, and the screens offered little protection from the elements, making the space unusable during certain seasons.
Project Goals
The primary goal was to transform the open screen room into an enclosed sunroom that would evoke the same feelings of comfort and nostalgia as their sunroom in Rehoboth Beach. This involved:
- Removing the old screens
- Installing new ProVia Sliding Patio Doors and Storm Doors
- Laying a new subfloor and Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring
- Building a new small exterior deck
- Capping everything to ensure a polished and finished look
Execution
Our team at S&S Remodeling began by carefully removing all the existing screens and dismantling the old wooden deck boards. We aimed to keep the project as minimally disruptive as possible, understanding the sentimental value the clients had attached to their home.
ProVia Sliding Patio Doors and Storm Doors
The installation of ProVia Sliding Patio Doors was a crucial aspect of the project. These doors not only provided easy access to the new sunroom but also allowed an abundance of natural light to flood the space, replicating the bright and airy feel of their beach house sunroom. The new Storm Doors added an extra layer of protection against the elements, ensuring the room could be enjoyed year-round.
Subfloor and LVP Flooring
Next, we installed a new subfloor to provide a stable base for the flooring. We selected Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring for its durability and aesthetic appeal. The LVP flooring was chosen to mimic the look of natural wood, providing a seamless transition from the old to the new while ensuring easy maintenance.
Exterior Deck and Capping
To enhance the functionality and appearance of the space, we built a new small exterior deck. This allowed the clients to step outside and enjoy their garden comfortably. We capped everything to ensure a neat and finished appearance, paying close attention to details to ensure the project met the clients’ expectations.
Final Outcome
The finished sunroom was nothing short of stunning. It perfectly captured the essence of their beloved beach house sunroom, offering a bright, inviting space where they could relax and reminisce. The clients were absolutely thrilled with the transformation. Seeing their joy and hearing their heartfelt appreciation was immensely rewarding for our team.
Conclusion
This project was more than just a remodeling job; it was about recreating memories and providing a space where our clients could continue to build new ones. At S&S Remodeling, we take pride in delivering not just high-quality craftsmanship but also in understanding and fulfilling our clients’ dreams and desires. This sunroom project is a testament to our commitment to making those dreams come true.
